How to request a custom intent topic
Last reviewed October 22, 2026
A custom intent topic is a new intent signal built around keywords and a definition you provide. Once it's live, it appears in your dashboard and you can select it like any other topic.
Before you request: check what already exists
DataMoon already covers 40,000+ intent categories. In the Audience Builder, open Intent B2B or Intent B2C and search the topic selector for your product, service, brand, or a broader category.
- Found a close match? Use it now. There's no wait.
- Found something adjacent but not specific enough? Submit a request and list the topics you found. We'll confirm whether one already covers your need.
- Found nothing? Submit a request using the template below.
How to submit a request
- Copy the template below into a new email.
- Use one email per topic. Each topic is reviewed and built separately.
- Fill in every field. Audience Type (B2B or B2C) is required.
- Subject line:
Custom Intent Topic Request: <Topic Name> - Send it to support@datamoon.com. You'll get an acknowledgment within 1 business day.
Requests sent by text, chat, or to an individual's inbox can be missed.

Fields 1 through 4 are required. Requests missing any of them will be returned for completion.
What happens after you submit
Most topics go live about 2 to 4 weeks after you approve the final request. The clock starts at your approval in step 3, not at your first email.
- Review (1 to 3 business days). We confirm your request is complete and check whether an existing topic already covers it.
- Cost confirmation. If the topic needs to be built, we'll confirm any cost in writing. Nothing is submitted or billed without your written approval.
- Your approval. We send back the final version of your request. Reply "Approved" or send corrections. This is your last chance to change keywords or audience type.
- Build (about 2 to 4 weeks). The topic is built and tested. Timing varies with how niche the topic is. We can't expedite individual builds.
- Live. We'll email you when the topic appears in your dashboard under the matching Intent tab.
Writing a strong request
Write keywords the way your customer searches, not the way your industry talks.
| Do | Avoid |
|---|---|
| One focused topic per request ("Yacht Rental") | Bundled topics ("Pool Decks and Pergolas") |
| Buyer phrasing: "boat rental near me," "sunset yacht cruise" | Internal jargon or SKU names only |
| A mix of broad and specific terms, including location and occasion | 20 near-duplicates of the same phrase |
| Brand or competitor names in field 5, with a link | A brand name with no context |
| Audience type stated once, clearly | Leaving B2B/B2C blank or "either" |
Example (B2C)
- Topic name: Yacht Rental
- Audience type: B2C
- Description: Consumers searching for private yacht charters, luxury yacht rentals, and boat rentals for leisure, events, vacations, or special occasions.
- Keywords: luxury yacht rental, Miami yacht rental, boat rental near me, yacht charter Miami, private yacht rental, party boat rental, sunset yacht cruise, yacht rental for birthdays, fishing boat rental, hourly boat rental
- Existing topics checked: Yacht, Boats, Boat Dealers. Too broad; they include buyers and dealers, not renters.
FAQ
Can I request several topics at once? Yes, but send one email per topic, and tell us your priority order if timing matters.
Can my topic go live faster? Not reliably. If you're on a deadline, start with the closest existing topic now and switch once the custom topic is live.
Can I change keywords after I approve? Changes after approval count as a new request and restart the timeline.
Will I see audience size before it's built? Not exactly. Reach depends on real search activity after launch, and niche topics can produce small audiences. We'll flag it in review if we expect very low volume.
Does this cost extra? It depends on the topic and your plan. We confirm any cost in writing before anything is submitted.
How many intent topics can one audience use? Up to 5 per audience in the dashboard.
Is every custom topic request accepted? No. Custom intent topics are approved by our data provider and are not guaranteed to be accepted.
