How visitor identification works
Last reviewed October 22, 2026
When someone visits a website with the DataMoon pixel, DataMoon tries to match that visit to a known person or business.
How it works
- The pixel records the visit.
- DataMoon's proprietary identity resolution uses multiple data signals to associate the visit with a profile in our identity graph.
- If there's a match, the visitor appears in your dashboard with the details available for that profile.
What to expect
- Match rates are typically 40–70%, depending on traffic source and cookie permissions.
- Details vary by profile. Not every visitor has every field, such as a phone number or business email.
- Data comes from our identity graph as compiled, not from anything the visitor typed into your site.
Your responsibilities
Visitor identification has privacy notice requirements. See Do I need a privacy notice on my website?
